New Harmonies Concludes NC Tour in Shelby

The final grand opening of New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music, hosted by Destination Cleveland County (DCC), opened Saturday, November 13, at the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby. Live guitar music sent the Rhythm & Roots 5K/10K runners on their way, and gospel songs from youth community members sung them across the finish line. At the opening ceremony Emily Epley, DCC executive director, announced Catherine Chambers as first-place winner of the roots music poster contest. Speakers included William Ferris, author of Give My Poor Heart Ease: Voices of the Mississippi Blues. New Harmonies will remain on display in Shelby until late-December.
