"Where Are You From?" Using Digital Humanities to Engage Communities
The Where Are You From? Project collects interviews and experiences of migration and mobility from students, faculty, staff at Wake Forest University and from permanent residents, green-card holders, foreign-born naturalized citizens, as well as undocumented residents, refugees, and US citizens in Winston-Salem, High Point, Greensboro, and the surrounding community.
The project, sponsored by Wake Forest University and funded in part by the Humanities Council, uses digital material to encourage a new approach to understanding immigration, with a renewed focus on the lives and experiences of those who are already here.
The site includes an interactive world map, which gives a geographic lens to the issue of immigration. It also incorporates a crowdsourcing component where users can upload their own content, their own stories of movement and migration.
