Sylvia Payne, B.A.
Sylvia Payne comes from a diverse background of Scots/Irish, English, and German ancestry. She grew up in the foothills of the North Carolina mountains listening to family stories told by her mother. A graduate of High Point University and a former children’s librarian, Payne has shared world folktales, NC stories and legends, and family stories in her thirty years of experience conducting programs and workshops. She has served as a board member of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild since 1998 and serves as editor of the Guild’s quarterly publication, Journal of Tar Heel Tellers. She has studied with such storytelling masters as Donald Davis, David Holt, Connie Regan-Blake and Jay O’Callahan.
