Mountain Legacies: Exploring Appalachian Culture
April 2 - October 15
Free
The Transylvania Heritage Museum’s new exhibit, Mountain Legacies: Exploring Appalachian Culture, is now on display. This exhibit shows how early settlers made their way into the Appalachian Mountains and made them their home. Families with roots in Scotland, Germany, and France arrived by way of Virginia or South Carolina with few personal possessions. Using the skills and traditions passed down from ancestors, along with diverse natural resources, they created a new lifestyle. Displays dispel the myth of an uncultured people and reveal lives rich with customs and traditions, including herbal medicines, handicrafts, and bluegrass music.
The Transylvania Heritage Museum exhibit, Mountain Legacies: Exploring Appalachian Culture, opens Saturday, April 2 and runs through mid-October, Thursdays-Saturdays, noon to 4 pm.
