New Trustee Joins the Board

We are pleased to announce the election of C. Thomas Steele, Jr. to the organization’s Board of Trustees. The board of North Carolina Humanities is composed of passionate volunteers from across the state.
North Carolina Humanities’ 2020-2021 Board of Trustees will be Chaired by Nancy A. Gutierrez (Charlotte), who is the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Lorna Ricotta (Fayetteville) will serve as the Board’s Vice Chair. Edward J. Sheary (Weaverville) will serve as the Board’s Chair Elect. North Carolina Humanities’ board and staff would like to thank two Trustees who completed their service on the Board in 2020: Carol B. Vorhaus (Durham) and V. Ann Tippitt (Gastonia).
Thomas Steele, Jr., who resides in Burlington, is Founding Partner of Pittman & Steele, PLLC and is active on a number of boards in his community, the region, and the state. Steele states:
“I have always been interested in learning about history, civilization, and the various peoples and cultures of the world… I am proud of our state and love everything about it from Cherokee culture, to Appalachian folk tales and ballads, to the Highland Games. I welcome the opportunity to serve North Carolina Humanities.”
North Carolina Humanities is comprised of volunteer trustees who are committed to enhancing the cultural life of North Carolinians and whose background, expertise, and leadership provide the organization with the tools to be dynamic and successful. Trustees serve a renewable three-year term, and five trustees are appointed by the Governor of North Carolina.
