NC Humanities joins the nation in observing Native American Heritage Month! Throughout the year, NC Humanities works to celebrate and uplift histories, stories, and cultures of all North Carolinians.
In recognition of this cultural heritage month, we are giving away a copy of It’s Lumbee Homecoming Y’all! by NC authors and educators, Leslie Locklear and Christina Pacheco! The book follows Nakoma, an 8 year-old Lumbee boy, as he takes part in a weekend of food and fun with his Grandma Etta Ann and Uncle Jerry. Nakoma’s story illustrates the popular tradition of Lumbee Homecoming that takes place in Pembroke, North Carolina, home of The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Through the eyes of our youth we see the value of grandma’s, golf carts, and grape ice cream! Head to NC Humanities’ Instagram to enter to win! The giveaway closes December 4.
