Fayetteville Loses its City Charter

Did you know that Fayetteville once lost its right to be a city? In the 1880s, the city lost its charter, and for a time became the town “formerly known as Fayetteville”. Learn about this fascinating tale in a presentation by the Fayetteville History Museum. This program is part of the Museum on Main Street Voices and Votes: Democracy in America Exhibition. Voices and Votes: Democracy in America  is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and North Carolina Humanities.
