Programs & Initiatives

We bring North Carolinians together to appreciate and understand the diversity of cultures and ideas around them.

In our work we bring subject matter experts and community members together to learn about and discuss topics that are important to both our nation and North Carolina. The resulting conversations expand understanding, respect, and empathy for each other’s stories and experiences, and serve to enrich the lives of North Carolinians.

North Carolina Center of the Book Programs

The North Carolina Center for the Book is a collection of North Carolina Humanities’ literature and reading programs. Programs from our North Carolina Center for the Book ignite a statewide community of readers by celebrating and promoting the vital importance of books, reading, libraries, and literary heritage. The North Carolina Center for the Book is the state affiliate of the National Center for the Book in the Library of Congress and is supported in part by the State Library of North Carolina.

Community Initiatives

Community Initiatives open doors for North Carolina Humanities to partner with organizations and present high-quality programs from across the nation that deliver meaningful impact in local communities. These initiatives encourage community learning, discussion, and engagement so that we can find ways to become more empathetic neighbors and more engaged citizens.
