Collaborating Beyond the Humanities

January 30 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Education Division of the National Endowment for the Humanities fosters curricular innovation through its grant programs. For the past nine years NEH’s Humanities Connections program, in particular, has supported curricula connecting the humanities to non-humanities fields. As humanities programs become more interdisciplinary, faculty must collaborate with colleagues who may share very different approaches, both to the subject matter itself and to how that content is presented to students.

Please join us on January 30, 2-4 pm EST for a virtual convening on “Collaborating Beyond the Humanities,” focusing on the health humanities as an exemplary site of interdisciplinary collaboration. In the first hour, speakers in the health humanities, including former NEH project directors, will share their perspectives on the joys, opportunities, and challenges of working across disciplines. In the second hour, all participants will be invited to join breakout rooms for further discussion.

Our speakers include:

  • Sari Altschuler (associate professor of English and founding director of the Health, Humanities and Society Program, Northeastern University)
  • Scott Muir (director of undergraduate initiatives, National Humanities Alliance)
  • Vincent Punzo (professor of psychology and founder of medical humanities at Earlham College), and
  • Elizabeth Dzeng (associate professor of medicine, University of California-San Francisco).

If you would like to attend, please register before January 27 (see button below for link).
