North Carolina Humanities joins the nation in observing National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from September 15 to October 15, to recognize and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of Americans of Hispanic and Latin American heritage. Throughout the year, NC Humanities works to celebrate and uplift histories, stories, and cultures of all North Carolinians.
In recognition of this cultural heritage month, we invite you to read through the below resources that explore and pay tribute to National Hispanic Heritage Month. This is just a short collection of the amazing resources that are available and we encourage our readers to explore beyond what we’ve listed. These resources should be read and enjoyed year-round.
- Read through the National Endowment for the Humanities’ (NEH) Virtual Bookshelf, featuring NEH-supported projects and blogs related to Hispanic and Latino/a history, literature, and culture.
- The NEH also has various initiatives to support Hispanic-serving institutions and the faculty at Hispanic-serving institutions. Prepare your applications for 2025!
- Explore events, resources, exhibitions, and podcasts from the Smithsonian Institution.
- Representation matters! The Smithsonian is building the National Museum of the American Latino to recognize the accomplishments, history, and culture of Latino communities. You can explore their online collections and resources to learn more about American Latino experiences.
- Read about North Carolina’s Hispanic Heritage using the resources of the State Library.
- Additional resources can be found at hispanicheritagemonth.gov!
